Husband took out 18mth contract with 3G. The main thing he wanting to know when taking out contract was that network was good in our area and they said it was very good. About 9 mths down the line and his phone is crap!! No network anywhere he goes (its a business phone and he travels to loads of areas and gets nothing)! He got another 3G phone of shelf and put sim card in - no difference!! 3G say, "yeah, network isn't good in your area now"! What can we do? They are'nt providing network, so surely we can cancel contract and get some money back? They say if we want to cancel, we have to pay remainder of monthly payments! We are in SE Scotland. Anyone had similar problem?

3G is relatively new and networks are being expanded as we speak.

I'm assuming you mean it's on the network 3. All networks do 3G phones. The only thing that might work is to go into network settings and selct mode - switch to 1900/GSM instead of automatic and it will then run on GPRS rather than 3G this will give you a better signal no matter what network you are on. However, if it is on the 3 network and it is just that the signal is poor in your area than you can right to the companies head office and complain that you have been misold a service, they will probably either allow you to cancel early or credit your account with some money as a goodwill gesture.

It might be a handset problem rather than a problem with the signal. If the phone has been ok upto till then I would suggest its a handset fault.

Its possible that the local transmitter that the phone locked onto when its switched on maybe down, although a quick call to 3 customer services would confirm whether its a transmitter fault or a handset fault.

no you cannot cancel your contract and get your money back

if you want to buy out of your contract then yoou do have to pay the remainder of your contract

**keep in mind - sales people tell you what you want to hear to sell you a phone, you should have done some real research with people in your are first**

and i highly doubt he gets ''No network anywhere he goes'' - is a bit of an overexajoration
