I was inclined to aggree with the first answer but then I did think.

Procreation- is it the same as "sex"?

So- question to the questioner- are you talking of sex as a biological process to further our line or are you talking about an experience which can lift you higher (or whatever)?

If sex is to procreate then the answer is yes, we'd still do it because instinct IS the natural drive to procreate which we need. Not mentalisation.

If sex is about emotions then nope- once our mentality is gone so is our "sex drive".

:-)

Thankfully we have our minds.

I believe it is fair to say that a MAJORITY of it is, in my experience of observing sexual behavior. HOwever believe that w/no mental capacity[or very little] one would still have a sexual drive....as I know someone who works in a home for the mentally challenged and have heard several stories. So it's still a biological need to procreate.
Many societies inc. obviously our own stimulate sexual drive constantly through advertisements, television/Hollywood,ect. So this is why I believe a lot of it is in our heads. Too many people see it as a form of "entertainment" or for self-gratification.
One the other hand, many people simply enjoy it w/one partner and it's satisfying not only phsyically, but mentally and can be spiritual as well.
I just think that because of the constant adverstising w/sex, it potentially can lead/breed many dysfunctions for unhealthy people--the vulnerable who are lonely, ect. It would be so nice if sex was more respected in our society.
So yes, the answer to your question is YES to some extent.

I believe sex is physical, mental & emotional/spiritual. No you wouldn't have a sex drive if you weren't able to think about it. Yes it's a biological urge but there are usually thoughts attached to that. It is the thought that fosters the desire. To me, sex is inseparable from love & is an intense connection on every level, the deepest & most raw expression of intimacy...

Assuming that you are not referring to us being brain dead...

Well to simply answer your question, by reason and thinking, our sex drive or rather or need to procreate is a survival instinct. We after all are animals. Now the need to survive does not involve mental though it involves being in tuned with our bodies. As far as i am concerned our sex drive comes from us wanting to experience the act of sex on a sociable level. Hope i answered your question.

Sex Therapists say sex starts in the brain, but it is also a physical need. I don't believe there would be a sex drive as we know it (hormones affect brain triggers), it would just be a physical need like drinking, eating, etc..

Unconcious=no sex drive
No capacity means none.
What a sad state.
The best part of sex is mental.

we would...the desire for sex is a basic instinct to ensure the longevity of one's genetic line and has no need for a rational mind
