I got mine from my back yard, and tamed them, 2 of the 4 my dog dug up, where I live your allowed to have more than 2. and get it from the backyard, that's if you live in the country. They act like dogs, they liked to be petted, They stand up and beg for food like dogs. no, money lost on me. (depending ,on what type of turtle you want.)

what kind of tortoise?
a sulcatta will cost anywhere from 100-600 dollars
and russian can be the same.
id go with a russian cause the sulcatts will grow up to 3 feet and need to live in florida. they get tooo huge and within 15-20 years.
youll need uva/uvb bulbs, subtsrate, the right food, basking bulbs, vitamin supplaments. youre looking on a big investemnt. id research this ALOT more!

depends. usually at $60 for a small easy tortoise like a three toed box turtle. $80-100 for a medium like Russian tortoise. and at the top $200-500 for huge ones like a spur tortoise.

Russians run around 80-100$, redfoots are about 250$, sulcatas, dunno. Box turtles run 150$. Thats in my area stores.

Online, however, at reptiledepot.com, they're significantly cheaper. The shipping right now for a while is only 19.95! Yay! I'm getting two russian tortoises tomorro from them and I've gotten a water dragon and iguana. They're very good, sulcata babies are only 65-80 I think. Russian males are 39, a pair is 99, and.... just check it out yourself.

depends on kind of tortise, where you get it from, age, etc.
i've seen some beautiful ones for $250-$300, some at specialty places selling them for $500, petstores for $110, and people just selling them by the road for $50. But as with anything research what kind you want, make sure you are getting a healthy one, and make sure you are wanting to take care of it the way it needs to be taken care of. I think they are great pets.
cheers!
