The 14" is plenty big - to the person that said 'you'll be sorry if you don't get the 15.4' keep in mind that some people actually use their laptops for work - and have to take them all over the place.
Since the size of the screen usually dictates the size of the case, then the smaller screen = smaller case. Ergo - lighter, and more portable, not to mention using less power.
Keep in mind that an LCD is much clearer than a CRT - so you don't need as big of a screen (think about the PSP - it's screen is barely 4" across). And finally, whenever you are at home/office you can always plug it into a bigger screen.

It's going to be hard for you to visualize what a 14.1 monitor screen will look like versus a 15.4 from words we responders use to describe them.
Why don't you do yourself a really big favor and visit a Computer Store, Best Buy, or Circuit City and see for yourself what each size looks like.
Personally, I don't like laptops ( I had to carry one on many business trips), and if I were to buy one it would be a 17" at a minimum. Yes it's more expensive, but worth the money in my estimation.
Take that Trip to the stores and look for yourself. It's makes a big difference and you'll be better able to judge for yourself.
Hope this helps.

To tell you the truth, I fell in love with the 14" laptops. For me, the 1" difference is everything. I like smaller laptops but anything smaller has slower processing speeds. So the 14" has equal processing speed and isn't quite as big as the 15" so it's a little easier to carry. If you have it only at home and it's your primary computer, then buy the 15" or larger if you want because for me, the 14" is better for me when I travel.

mine is 15.4 and I wish it was 14. its too big to be really portable. The 12" ones are incredible.
The majority of computer bags are made for a 15.4, which means that it will barely fit, and doesnt have much space for cords and such.. It also means that the padding is innefective because its so tightly fit.

Please don't repeat your question. It's BOGUS.
You really should see for yourself. Visit a retail store near you and SEE it. Many young people with great eyesight like smaller and lighter laptops, so they are GOOD with that. Older people need MUCH larger. ME, I simply don't care for laptops. They break easily, cost more to upgrade and are the NUMBER ONE stolen item; where fewer than 2% are recovered. I use a laptop only when I go ON THE ROAD.
Good luck and Happy Computing!
