How old is your burner? There's two different types of DVD writable media. There's "+" (plus) and "-" (minus). Almost all DVD burners sold now accept both formats, but make sure... for example, you're not trying to use DVD+R media in a DVD-R drive.

First make sure you have dvd burner on your system. If you do have dvd burner, check to verify if the drivers needed are properly installed - if you need to download the drivers, log on to the manufacturer website and download the required driver.Make sure the disc you are trying to burn your music or movie to is compatible.Good luck

Make sure your computer can actually burn DVD's - look at the side of your DVD drive on your laptop. If it is capable of burning DVD's it will have some text like "DVD ReWritable" or "DVD R"

Double check that your laptop has the capability to actually write DVD's as well as read them. The one on my laptop will read and writes CD's and only read DVD's, not write them.
Find the model of your DVD drive then do a search for the specs.
