Why do you own a gun?

1. Because the 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution says I can.

2. Because I like having the ability to defend myself against deadly force with deadly force. (It really sucks being the one to bring a knife to a gunfight.)

3. Because the 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution says I can.

4. Because I enjoy target shooting. It involves concentration, practice, and self-discipline; all three are traits that will help me in all of my other endeavors in life.

5. And most importantly, because the 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution says I can.

Several reasons come to mind. At the top of the list is to protect my family and myself. I have a firearm at home and generally carry one when I'm out and about. The courts have ruled in a couple of cases that it's not the police's job to protect you. That leaves the responsibility to you. Not for anything but I'm not about to gamble on a policeman being around when my home is invaded or I'm carjacked. I accept the responsibility.

The next reason would probably be target shooting. Like golf, bowling or any other sport, I find target shooting enjoyable and stress relieving.

If anyone is against firearms because they don't have experience with them, I would encourage them to visit their local range, take a class or two, rent some guns, and spend some time shooting. At the end of that experience they can then make an informed decision regarding firearms.

... I am not confused as to the fact that guns are morally neutral. They're just a tool. The evil is in the people that use them criminally, that obtain them criminally, but it is not in the gun.
... Because the history of the world has shown that citizens who do not have a right to own guns are more likely to suffer tyranny than those who do have those rights.

I don't own a gun because I don't know how to use one.
But my bf and I are planning on getting our license soon. We don't plan on carrying it at all times, but we would like to have one in our home. You can never be too cautious. We don't plan on ever having children so that concern doesn't apply to us. If I had children I would feel uneasy about having a gun at home.

don't actually own a gun, but I am not against having them. Since I am in the military, I have contact with them on a regular basis, but since I do not have time to hunt and I don't just go for target practice, there is no reason for me to own one.

My .22 was for my 15th Birthday... my Shotgun I bought in 1989 after home was burglarized... my Enfield I got when my Dad passed away. My Berreta is my Aircrew side-arm... my other rifles are just purchases. Including one labelled an "assault-weapon" by the State of Califoria, but it's grandfathered in.

EVERYTHING is in a safe... shotgun comes out at night.

Because I can. It is for the purpose of self-protection. I do not trust cops to do their job.
