I have some old coats that I cant do anything with. They are not in good enough condition to give to GoodWill. Other than just throwing them in the trash, what kind of ideas can you come up with for use of them?

Serious replies only please

Depends on the fabric and how much of it you have, but I've seen footstools recovered using old coats made from leather and/or suede. Just sew together all the pieces and they look great. Kind of like a patch work quilt. I've even seen pillows done the same way and they were beautiful!

There are also many crafts, like old world Santa's that have fabric coats that could be made from your coat material. Old snowmen or stuffed bears could also be made from them, just look through some magazines until something strikes your fancy. Get creative, it's loads of fun!

I bought some old wool coats and cut it into strips and braided a rug.
Cut them up and use the largest and best pieces to sew a quilt to keep in your vehicle.
The smaller worn parts could be rags.

- make a padded coat hanger by permanently attaching the coat
- chop off the rest below the hanger

or

- buttons, snaps etc.

Depending on the fabric you could make carry all type handbags.Or little ones with those cute handles you buy at fabric and craft stores.
