there are actual reasons to do this, for one, you hear alot of prople that have found someone just by their myspace or hi5 or other blog pages and actually caused harm to them, murder or some other whatnot... so their afraid something like that could happen to them, so they change their location... like me in my myspace i have "Somewhere in, Az" as my location... not because i'm want to be a jerk or anything, if anyone axes where i actually am i say, AZ City.... i just dont want any random person looking at my info you know? thats the best thing i could think of tho...

I think for some it's that they are expressing their alter ego's. They want to be something they are not in some way(s) just to give themselves an ego boost/escape reality and become something that they are not temporarily.
But other's use this internet facade in efforts to attain something for themselves. However pretty stupid because it'll just catch up w/them in the end--particuliarly for ex. if they are on a dating site, and eventually meet up. Then the other person finds out the "real deal". I bet it's very deceiving too!! For instance if someone lies about their physical description, age, weight, ect. and then the other person finally see's them up close/in person. Like I say it's so very stupid obviously because i bet it's shocking for them, and also very embarrassing for the liar. [I've heard/read a lot of stories about this]
I've read that it goes on much more than it doesn't. What a shame. It would be nice if everyone was honest about their true identity, huh?
Either be honest, or remain anonymous for self protection first and foremost, always be very careful w/your personal info!!!!

People lie in general. The internet just makes it easier. Some people may have sinister ulterior motives for misrepresenting who they are. There are predators on the net. Which is why the rest of us have to be careful...
I'm an honest person in life & on the internet but I'm protective of my personal information. The internet is safe as long as there is some anonymity. I wouldn't volunteer information that could let people track me down but I wouldn't lie about my info either. There's no point.

Well, I don't like to give personal details that would help identify who I actually am, but I don't actually lie on the Internet.
I don't know - I think it's strange too. I guess the anonymity gives people a chance to pretend they're somebody more exiting than they actually are, or that they're doing something they wish they were doing, being richer, etc... Not sure why people do it, though. I guess for that instant, it makes the fantasy true.

For a little girl you asked a tough question. So many people have problems being genuine. I am a trusting person and get burned every so often. Keep thinking it won't happen again then it does, so be careful in your life's travels.

I don't lie, I just don't reveal my identity fully. It is more like I am lying to my other life because I have a professional image to maintain.

Because it's as comfortable as my La-Z-Boy. That's why I lie on the internet. Or lay on the internet. I could never decipher the two. But it is very comfy.

Same reason they insult people; they figure they can get away with it.
Some folks have two different value/morality systems; one for real life and one for the internet.
