I have noticed in most restaurants water (still and sparkling) is served in glass and not plastic bottles. Just wondering why is that? Any economic or environmental issues invloved?

I agree glass is classier. But don't agree with the cost issues, as with glass bottles, you need a system of delivery and pick up, as well as cleaning them before re using. Plastic is cheap to manufacture and then disposed of. Let me know your thoughts...

I think it is cheaper for restaurants to order glass bottled water. The water company re fills the empty glasses and ship them to other restaurants.

It's almost like when you drink milk. The milkman gives you a milk in glass bottles, and the next day, he takes the empty glass bottles to be refilled.

It saves money.

I only drink water from reusable plastic bottles. For some odd reason it tastes bad to me when I drink water out of glass.

Plastic releases toxins from the materials it is manufactured from. Glass does not.

i guess it is because they reuse the bottles, its easier. glass is also just more appropriate/formal in restaurants.
