I'm building my first computer ever and want to buy hardware and software on-line because I feel you get a much better deal on-line than in a local computer store (we only have Circuit City, OfficeMax, and Staples in my area anyway). Besides, most of these stores don't sell the type of hardware I'll need like motherboard, cpu, case, power supply, just for example.
I started thinking I should ask experienced computer people who have bought on-line which company's are the best 3 or 4 companies to buy from.
Can you help me please? I want to buy from a company that treats you right and doesn't make it difficult to return damaged products.
I've heard NewEgg.com is one of the best but I'd like to hear it from you guys.
Are there others that are just as good or better than NewEgg.com. How about Tiger Direct.com and Fry's.com?
Thank you. Your input will be appreciated.
P.S. What motherboard is best for my AMD 64 X2 slot AM2 processor (must have IEEE 1394)?

What about ZipZoomFly? I've ordered some things from them and I've been very pleased. Just wondering, because no one has mentioned them.

The best Internet sites to buy computer hardware from are tigerdirect.com and newegg.com. These sites are both very good for finding cheap or good hardware and software.
The best solution for your situation is to look at tigerdirect and search for clearance items, check prices, then go to newegg and see which has the the better deal.
Another solution, if you don't want to build your own computer right away, what you could do is go to a website like ibuypower.com, they have computers at about the same price as what you could build your own for. They are basically homemade, then resaled to the public. That would give you the chance to take it apart and figure out how to put it back together on your own. I guess that's if you don't already know how to build one.
An Asus brand motherboard would be a good choice because they are well priced and work good.

Asus motherboards are the best, and are well thought out.
Newegg is the best supplier I have ever used. I have never had a single problem returning anything, or getting a replacement. They even overnight replacement parts.
I ended up using newegg after a huge horror story with tigerdirect. They gave me mailin rebates for my parts, an then claimed they never existed, even though I had copies and faxed them. It cost me almost $1000.
Tigerdirect also has the worst return system ever. The fine print doesnt allow anything to be returned unless you buy the insanely expensive replacelent plan.
Before you get anyting fromtigerdirect, read the fine print on returns. Youll see what Im talking about.
I think you should seriously use newegg. What happens if you buy something from shopzilla or tigerdirect and it breaks? Then you have to buy a whole new part.
That means that if you save a measily $50, it only take a single part breaking to even it out.
Trust me, I have been building computers for over a decade, and have seen dozens of parts break within days of being purchased. I had two motherboards die in two weeks last year. Good for me Newegg allowed me to get my money back and use it to get another board from another manufacturer. Problem fixed.

i work for a computer company and i wouldnt bother building a pc as you now get the best deal from those refurbished ones they are mint and really new stuff for a lot less i would sugest buying a packard bell refurbished one if you are in uk then try accomputerwarehouse. com if not then just search for packard bell refurb stuff in your area if tier1 are near they are good and also ive messed with the athlon 64 x2 4200 and i dont think its even half as good as a 2800 dual core p4 even though i have allways been a amd person i love them i gotta admit side by side the dual core p4 blows the athlon 64x2 out of the water every time..dont ask me why it may be better on spec an stuff but go in a shop an click about on both machines an you will see what i mean lol i hope that helps.

UNless you are an expert, forget building a computer at 3 times the price of a customized manufactured one. For hardware, I have found Tiger Direct reliable and cheap.

I usually use http://www.pricewatch.com/ to find out the best price for something. Usually tiger and newegg have the items very comparatively.

I use "www.TigerDirect.com" almost exclusively. I have had ZERO problems with merchandise, returns, etc. I use "www.NewEgg.com" if Tiger doesn't have what I need. I've had a few problems with the Egg, but they have all been resolved to my satisfaction. Those two work.
