About three days ago I was on my way home and my battery light came on. The lights got dim and the radio started flickering but did not go off completely. My battery is only like 3 months old and I was told that it is most likely the starter or the alternator. Can you please tell me how much it would cost to replace either of those? I have tried to start it since then but it just makes a very faint clicking. The radio and lights still work though. I am a girl who knows very little about cars so if my car won't start how will I get it to a mechanic? Can it be towed somewhere? Thanks in advance for all of your help.

It sounds like your alternator has broke or the belt has snapped, its not a big job and most garages can fit recon alternators so you save some money, if its just the belt that easy and cheap.
They should come out to you for free just to check the fault "if there nice".

Also it will have been this that has caused your battery to need replacing.

There are several possibilities:
1) Your battery may have leaked acid out of one cell, thereby creating a "dead" cell in the battery. This would be the best-case scenario for you, since the battery is probably still under warranty.
2) The belt driving the alternator may be loose or broken; this is not too costly.
3) The alternator and/or voltage regulator may be fried. This is typically a $200-300 job.
4) The starter may have a short-circuit in its wiring. Price to fix/replace varies.

You shouldn't have a problem getting a tow. They typically charge by the mile if you're not an auto club member.

I hope may be only a broken belt.,

I don't know how to help You,
the price? for an alternator, part and labor, around $200.00 dollars.
do You have any way to recharge the battery? You might save the tow expenses. in case You don't have AAA

ask, the tow truck driver, to take a look to the engine ,if he see something wrong. let us know.
