I have strep throat and the doc knew that I had a cough/mucus in in my throat and such. But he still just gave me the stuff to treat the strep, I'm guessing it's going to go away once the strep is gone? I find myself clearing my throat/blowing nose constantly. My parents gave me Dayquil, but it doesn't dry me up.

Any suggestions?

For one thing, strep is highly contageous. Keep your hand towel, washing soap, etc separate. Especially watch that toothbrush as to where you place it. If you place it in the same holder along with others, you are passing your germs on to others. Try and use the same faucet at home at all times so that people don't catch it from its handle.

Do not go to work for another week. Tell your boss, he/she will appreciate that you opted to stay home. Even the keyboard, the telephone and the door handle you use can pass on those germs to others.

Secondly, this needs a penicillin injection or a capsule. Amoxicilin will work but there is a higher strength. Only a doctor can prescribe this for you. It should clear up in 4 days. You shoud finish the antibiotic complete course even after you feel better.

I know how difficult it can be. Been there done that.

After you feel better, you MUST wash everything down so that you won't give your germ to yourself again.

Try extra strength tylenol cold & sinus (Sudafed also works well)
I am experienced with Strep Throat - I've had it every year since I was 12 (I am now 26)

The mucus is part of the infection and should clear up as the meds clear up the infection. It just takes time. The tylenol I mentioned above is a god send!

This sounds nasty, but there is a thing sold by a company called nasaline... it's kinda like a big turkey baster that shoots water up one nostril and out of the other. You mix a little salt with the water before you do it.

Like I said, it sounds foul, but I have allergies and doing that clears things right up for a few hours afterwards. I also use it when I have a cold... everyone who uses it says it works really well. It's best to use it right before bed and right after you wake up.

Also, cut back on your dairy foods until you feel better. Like milk and cheese. That creates more mucus.

My husband has a terrible cold and is having these same problems. The medicine I was giving him wasn't working at all. I asked our pharmacist what I should get for him to clear his sinus passages. He recommended Tavist Allergy and Advil Cold and Sinus. It has been working really well for him. Feel better, Sweetie!!
