There are a lot of reasons, chemical depression, drug abuse, a lack of feeling like you fit in. I think teenagers tend to make rash decisons about everything in life so it's not surprising that they make bad decisions regarding ending their lives.

Suicide occurs when we lose hope of ever being happy again, or the pain we suffer appear to be overwhelm the fear of death we have. Teenagers are prone to extreme emotional swings due to many factors. Hormone shifts in the body, peer pressure, and the need to exercise independence and separate from their parents. All these combine to make for a hectic life in the best of situations. Now and some trauma, something that really stirs the mix. What appears to be a small matter and be blown up into a life of death situation, literally. Relationships are a big thing. First loves and experiencing new emotions. Conflicts with parents, pressure at school to perform. So many triggers. So add to that the fact that many young people still experience what is known as " magical thinking", which means not a clear understanding of consequences of actions. Death is a good way to get back at someone who hurt us, but we do not think about the fact that we will be dead.

Suicide occurs when someone becomes so jammed up with pain and rage that they think they can never fix it. Now if that were true, then suicide would be the logical choice, and as soon as possible. It would be like pressing a button to get out of hhell. Who wouldn't. But teenagers, esepcially, don't yet know about all the resources there are to help them get through stuff like that, nor just how much pain the human soul can endure. They lose sight that it can ever change. Which is pretty easy to do when you are in agony.

A related point is the higher than normal rate of sucide from teenagers on some of these drugs like Paxil. I have not seen a study on this, but I suspect that this happens because those drugs numb how you feel - but you are still feeling that way, whether YOU are aware of it (consciously) or not. So like a person whose mouth is numb from the dentist can chew a hole in their own cheek and never know it till they taste the blood, people whose emotions are numbed can further injure themselves without realizing it, and further, and further, until it breaks through suddenly and so overwhelms them that they kill themselves immediately in self defense.

Because they can see no way out of their current situation. They don't have enough life experience to see that losing a boyfriend/girlfriend is not the end of the world , nor is not getting accepted into the club or school you wanted or getting the highest grade.

Many teens cite unreasonable expectations from parents as their excuse, but really it's their perception of parental expectation which may or may not be verbalized.

Generally tho most teenagers commit suicide from depression or other forms of mental illness, like schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, nervosa annorexia etc.

Teenagers are young adults. Their hormones are ever-changing. Life also forces them to wonder what they will "be" as an adult someday. Add that to social pressure and wanting to know where they are on the social totem pole to sexual feelings blooming all around and you have the makings of a big load that seems too heavy to carry. They may lack foresight or the belief that they will succeed in life. Good Luck!! @8-)

The overwhelming feeling of sadness, not fitting in, hopelessness...I can't imagine feeling that lost, but remembering what it felt like as a teenager, EVERYTHING was such a bid deal, that to have serious problems, leaves them, in their mind with no choice...

All due to immatured. They have nothing to consider or responsible for, unlike a 30yr old mother/father of 3. And they tends to do things out of guts.
