* sigh * sure. Sometimes you come to realize that a certain thing is just never going to work out, and then once you realize that, to NOT give up would be crazy. But the specter of giving it up may be unbearably painful or fearful. It's a terrible place to get to. But yes, there is a time to give up - when you realize the cause is lost. It is freeing too, because only then can you begin to heal.

Given up what - wealth, position, power, genes or what else?.Anyway let me answer one thing - giving up wealth. Some of us are gifted than others in wealth. It is humane to share part of our wealth with those who are less fortunate for a living. That is what our religions like Muslim and Christian philosophies advocate. I am a Christian and I am happy to give up more than ten percent of my earnings to the poor and needy. Another big means of donation is the genetic donation. So when you give blood, you save a life; but when you donate sperm/egg of good genetic make up, you save the next generations. But I am old and unable to practice it now.

Yes. Sometimes you make a decision and later you realize it wasn't really the best. If that happens, it's right to give it up, cut your losses and move on.

Myself, I lost who I am . My husband was controling and a drunk, and I had 6 kids. I became a mother to all 6 plus him. I use to sing and dance, laugh and be smart and still be funny and goofy. I lost that. Now I'm divorced and remarried to a man who lets me be me. I give up , ME. I'm coming back AND I LOVE IT.
