Girls develop faster than boys, yes. The bodies are different between boys and girls and between men and women. Females in general do float better than males due to what percentage of their bodies are the bones, its also one of the reasons women suffer from osteoporosis more often. Their coordination areas of the brain develop much earlier than their male counterparts. These things are genetic and are the reason why 16 year old girls are winning gold medals in swimming. A male swimmer doesn't peak until the early 20s. As adults, the bodies change. Certain strokes are more advantageous for women, others for men. The main differences are the hips, shoulders, and body chemistry. Men gain broad shoulders and women get wider hips. Slender shoulders are an advantage for backstroke and wide hips are an advantage for breaststroke. Larger shoulders are good for butterfly. In the end, the male ability to develop more powerful muscles and produce more adrenaline makes the difference in every stroke. The world records in every 100m event are better for the men by at least 5 seconds in every stroke. As far as drowning goes, it may be a factor that women float better or learn faster, but the biggest factor is the fact that men are risk-takers in general. We are stupid and we do stupid things. Men lead women in just about every category of accidental death (drowning is included in these numbers) and die accidentally at a rate of 4 to 1 with women.

Is this supposed to be a sexist question everybody can float on water if they are overweight since women are overweight they float better but if a man is overweight he'll be able to float. Sex doesn't matter more than weight does idiot. I'm overweight dude and I can float

Because men are smarter than woman. Since they have heavier brains than woman, whose cranial cavity is filled mostly with warm air...men are naturally less buoyant than woman. Also, since most of a woman's muscle mass is centered around the mouth area to facillitate...I believe the technical term here is "incessant yapping". Hence, their most dense muscle tissue will be above the water line when floating.

There you have it.

Male bodies are more dense than female bodies. Males have more muscle mass, denser/ thicker bones and less percentage of body fat. All these things contribute to making men less buoyant. Lean/ muscular men sink like rocks even compared to chubby non-muscular men.

Girls usually have more body fat (18-21% is a healthy fat percentage for girls) and fat floats. Boys usually have less fat and more muscle. Muscle sinks.
