not pointing cement, but sand and cement, use building sand, plus any cement, mix 3 sand to one cement. with water, put a drop of washing up liquid with it to make it more pliable, and off you go, good luck, dont make it too wet should be of the consistency of butter

I agree with Alan, but would go for a 4 to 1 mix. Four (spade, shovel or trowel-fulls) of builders sand to 1 cement.

You can use a plasterers small tool and bucket handle, a bit of hose pipe, a pointing trowel or just about anything you like to give a finish.

There are loads of different pointing styles too. Why not have a look at the brick-work that you probably walk past every day for some ideas of good or bad pointing.

Good tip Alan about a couple of drops of washing-up liquid.

first of ..DO NOT use washing up liquid.. it kills the cement there are two types of cement ..Portland and masonry cement ..masonry has lime in it .it makes the mortar more flexible ..easier to use .but it does dry whiter ..3 to 1 is too strong . only to be used under D P C use a maximum strength of 5 to 1.. VERY IMPORTANT.. the mixture should be mixed by WEIGHT ..a shovel of sand is a lot heavier than a shovel of cement..so weigh out materials.. .do not mix too wet ..keep as stiff as usable..

You can also use trowelling mastic, some people use cement in a pointing gun but in order to get it to flow you have to mix it with lots of plasticiser, which weakens the mix-
