I really don't know, I have often wondered that myself.

all the people that think we should get out of Iraq, that is totally absurd!
leave all the "anti-war" back in the 60's please, if we leave Iraq they are just gonna come and attack us, so you might as well just kill yourself already if we left Iraq, which is not going to happen as long as we keep Hilary OUT!

In order to reach a solution you have to be able to meet at a bargaining table .Short of Bush and company sitting down and listening to the Iraqi people Or maybe even admitting the Iraq war has now become an internal war and how can we assist those with the best hope of winning ,We will fail in the stated mission .
If our mission is one of peace and democracy we must respect the leaders that the people are supporting . These may not be the elected officials of puppet government Bush supplied to the Iraqi people . These may be the heads of resistance groups to the occupation .
We are no longer liberators . What do you call a relative that comes to your house and never packs a suit case to leave . Almost without fail there is a member of your family everyone is afraid to become involved with or have over because it takes time and working out and through difficult problems .
Iraq is in complete chaos at this time in its major city .Fighting and interruption in trade between cities is limited but the City of Baghdad is not a honey pot .
It is not the center of all the discontent within Iraq . It is the most visible and widely reported on lately but by far not the center of trouble . Until we see that two factions are embroiled in a life and death struggle and little interference is welcomed or wanted we will remain a target for both sides who see us standing in the way of being able to defeat those who stand in the way of achieving the goals they want .
Not viewing this war from the get go as a possible powder keg held together by a strong and sometimes ruthless leader was , how can I say it so you understand ? Not just stupid or short sighted ,not just inept planning or preparation , Its more like having a black referee at a clan rally boxing match . It is unheard of how maladroit our effort in Iraq was during the months and years we had to plan a proper takeover and control of any nation.
Could it be that this is no longer possible in to days world ,especially a heavily armed civilian population that is prepared for invasion and resistance to occupiers . Tell me if you think Israel could be occupied by any Arab nation and that the Arab nation would not be at the same risk our troops are in today . No such thing as orderly control could exist under those circumstances .
The Liberal view you are looking for or solutions do not exist and should not be a factor in any war .
What should however be the deciding factor is the movement forward towards progress and if none is being made and as people point out Baghdad is the center of violence Pull back and surround the city .Nothing goes in or out without being searched .
\Or we could always leave . Leaving would be my preference seeing as how ,going was not ,and should not, have been an option ,in the first place .
We had not exhausted all negotiations or even asked Iraq to turn over a list of suspected terrorists .On what pretext did we unseat and now execute the leader of a sovereign nation .
We had no right to go into Iraq in the first place and as people say what comes around goes around and for good reason .

I think he put his personal agenda before the nation's by, first, stealing the election and then going after Saddam as a personal family issue. Mistake, mistake.

We should instead:

1) Resolve such issues through the UN.

2) Re-engineer the UN so that it becomes an organization through which resolutions can not only be passed but also implemented. Passing great resolutions like 1559 and not implementing them gives the UN an image of impotency and so it is not taken seriously. That needs to change otherwise countries will solve international issues on their own and that will result in chaos!

Unfortunately, at this point there is no viable solution. There are best case scenarios. The Iraqi people are fed up with what they believe to be broken promises and a situation-- in some cases-- worse than when they where under the thumb of Saddam. I believe that in order to achieve peace that there needs to be less bickering and more of a get-er-done attitude. The people need electricity, water, sewage, and jobs--this will subdue many of the frustrated citizens that are resorting to violence to have thier voice heard...but many of the funds for this type of reconstruction have been grossly misappropriated. This needs to change and unless our Commander gets his hands and feet dirty to make sure that these funds are used according to their earmarks...there will be no chance of stability --or anything remotely close...with presidential veto power--even the best laid plans will never be implemented.

Here's a solution; let's elect a president and vice president that are not just carbon copies of the last two.

Some improvement would be nice; I don't care what their political designation is.

I could handle an alien with two heads. I don't care.

Let's just make an improvement, and move on.

Seems like - for some - this politics section reflects the same problems as relationships; non-constructive bickering, little resolution, and dwelling on the past instead of moving forward.

Why do you ask a question that has been asked by every brainwashed puppet in the Republican party? We want out of Iraq. How many people have to state this before you Limbaugh lovers will get the point? We want fair health care.We want to protect the environment and not just give lip service to it.Whatever the liberals do,it will be head and shoulders better than the Bush regime of crooks and millionaire oil barons.Good riddance,I say.I have a solution for you...educate your self a bit before you get on this site and make an idiot of yourself.

Yesterday I heard a liberal call into a talk radio station say that he isn't concerned with what happens outside the US. That we should pull out and we shouldn't care what happens over there. If millions of people die, it doesn't matter because they aren't Americans.

Some people are just close-minded and/or naive.

because they just complain and protest....
they don't discuss the problems...that's why there is no solution and the same thing kept been complain.
