Ha! Great question. We are IN our brain. The brain itself is a piece of meat. This comparable to asking where is the music in a guitar. It's almost an impossible question. The guitar produces music but the music is not IN or ON, or UNDER the guitar. Also, where is the dance in people? Well, it's not! It's an action, something they DO. And our being is something the brain DOES. It has no mass so you can't locate it, but it certainly is not the brain itself. It is something the brain DOES.
And for that matter, who knows where the WE is actually taking place - we see out of our eyes and hear out of our hears, but where IS the consciousness actually located where this is taking place? Who knows?

Our brain is a marvelous and extremely complex organ, perhaps the most complex in the whole universe, but it is NOT more important than ANY other organ in our body. The reason is that it needs the help and cooperation of ALL the other organs of our body in order to function properly. (An analogy could be drawn here with how the world should be in order to function properly, but it is besides your question.)
So we are neither in our brain or our brain because the brain is not any more special or important than any other organ of our body.
The question your teacher asks could then mean whether the reality of a person is his material being - symbolized here as his brain - or not.
The answer is that the reality of man is his spirit, not his material being.

I believe you are in your brain. I think that is why when someone has a serious accident and suffers head trauma they wind up with altered personalities. It happens more often than not. My own cousin was in an accident that he doesn't even remember, but before the accident he was a jerk, after it he was a completely different guy. That's why I believe that you are in your brain.

Never thought of it that way...........This could get deep the longer I think about it. It would depend, in my opinion, as to wheather or not one believes in reincarnation. If we come back into this world after death then you would be in a brain. If not then you are the brain.

Three parts of you : Physical, Life Force, and Mind. Your mental make-up comes from the things you absorb during the process of physical life. What you put in your mind influences your physical and spiritual parts of you. Brains are like computers because they can only give you info on what you put in to it.
