i bought it used ,mild engine modifications,supposed to be a new barnett clutch ,does crankcase oil level make a difference

id check the oil level ....thats where most people screw up... they only hold around 1/2 a quart , some people put way too much in and it makes the clutch not work so good

Yes check your oil.
Oil type is also something one may want to check.
There is a different between car oil and motor cycle oil.
Also check end play in your clutch cable. You should have about 1/4" play before you start pulling on your clutch. If you right tight you could be disengaging the clutch with out knowing it.

Larry was part right either your oil level is low or you have incorrect oil in there, they are a wet clutch and as such they have a tendency to slip when oil gets low, if too much oil they will grab so check oil level first, if it is OK then change your oil,
