1. Get some exercise. Exercise gets your heart pumping, and this raises the endorphin level in your brain, helping to relieve some of the depression. This is not a cure, but it will help! Try to get a half hour every day if at all possible, even if it is just going for a walk.

2. When you are feeling depressed, make a list of the things you like to do, then pick something from that list to do. Keeping yourself occupied will help. Call or visit your friends or family when you can, and try to get involved in some activities outside of class and work so you can make new friends. This will make a big difference. Volunteer at a local organization, the library, a school, the animal shelter or a hospital. You will meet new people and distract yourself from depression.

3. Educate yourself on depression. Go to Google or Yahoo Search and do a search on it. There are MANY websites that deal with depression, and many of them have hotline numbers to help. The more you know about depression, the easier it will be to deal with it!

4. Most importantly of all, talk to someone about it! You can start with a doctor. There are medications that will help with the depression, and you may be able to get in to see a therapist. There are programs available that can help people with money problems as well to see a therapist. Ask your doctor about this.

5. Finally, if you are feeling suicidal, please call a suicide hotline. There are people who can help you.

Here are the numbers to the suicide hotlines:

1-800-SUICIDE (784-2433)
1-800-LETSTALK (273-8255)

If you have hearing problems and a tty phone for the deaf, you can call 1-800-799-4TTY (4889).

Good luck!

1. Decide you HAVE to get out of it.
2. Get help to support you.
3. Be patient and remember to be consistent.

You need to be the one to decide you want to get better. Looks like you have, or else you'd not ask.

Go and seek out help. Doctors will be the obvious first step of getting someone outside your family to help you. But remember- you will need the support of friends and family here as well! And doctors can only do so much- they are MEDICAL staff and will encourage you to take pills to achieve success. Be advised that medical intervention is not the only route and is rarely successful alone. In fact for some it can be harmful. See other "professional" help as well. Ear to ground- find out what is available near you as you will benefit from face-to-face REAL TIME help and not just internet or long-distance help.

Then remember that Rome was not built in a day. Depression is so often caused by environmental (things you cannot help) stresses and so there is a lot of work to be done. You need to take SMALL steps and be PROUD you have survived or improved on a daily basis. And to not lose hope when you fail to progress. Patience really IS a virtue.

Good luck

Not always that simple Im afraid, particulary if you are talking about severe depression...
To help alleviate the onset of a mild case of depression however, I would recommend some form of exercise/activity. Even if crawling into bed/not getting out of bed sounds more appealing, exessive sleep can actually deepen a depressed state, getting up and exercising your body will produce a 'feel good' hormone.

See a qualified health professional to receive therapy and appropriate prescribed medication. You are not alone. There are some 10 million Americans suffering some kind of depression. Good luck.

Look over the website link below and find a local support group of people like yourself who get together once a week to help each other find the best doctors, medications and therapists for your particular problems. If your serious about getting better, you'll do it.

Obviously the first thing is you need to seek medical advice. That is going to help but anti-depressants generally take four to six weeks to start working. For now, to start feeling better today, walk. Go outside, breathe in fresh air, move about, get the serotonin hyped up and producing. Wherever you are you can walk somewhere. Even if you have to just walk in circles around your home, walk. Get that exchange of bad air out and fresh air in. Trust me, you will start to feel better!

Pills aren't the answer. Chemical imbalance is the result of a a persistant way of thinking, it isn't the cause. It's too big of a topic to answer here, but be greatful for what you have, set some BIG juicy goals for your life and know that happiness is a choice.

just let it go,,,,,, live your life,,,,,, everything is gonna be ok..... noone or nothing worth to it... i feel so stressed and unhappy sometimes.. actually most of the time... work, people.....etc. but when you stop for a while and think about it, you find out, there is no reason for you to make yourself unhappy... coz when you look back to your old depressions, you see that they were not very important... maybe after a while the situation wont even bother you...TRY TO SEE THE GOOD POINTS OF YOUR LIFE..THE THINGS YOU'VE GOT AND THE OTHER PEOPLE DON'T..

Pills or a shrink doesnt work... you can stop yuor own depression...

First of all find the cause of your depression ....Try to think positive, see the good things you have in life. See the people who are living a life much much difficult then yours. I suggest go to some hilly and quite place, make yourself close to nature.......enjoy what nature has given you I am sure that will make you feel much much better............. If still not feeling better then see ur doctor and seek his advise.

You can see a doc, and get some drugs, or you can go out, and be with people. Working out sometimes helps, or going for a run. The idea is mainly to go out into the world and change your lifestyle.
