The best advice I can give you is not to listen too much to what other people tell you. Just be yourself and don't try to force adult behaviour onto yourself. There is nothing wrong with being a little bit childish. It can actually be quite endearing. Be glad that you still retain the ability to act like a child. Many people probably envy you for it. Maturity will come on its own, don't worry. And, by the way, many mature people long for the days when they could still afford to act in a childish way.

If I were you I would try a couple things.
1. When speaking with people, talk intelligently and listen politely. People appreciate the maturity of someone that can have a respectful and intelligent conversation.
2. I don't know how you dress, but maybe try wearing things that are a little more "adult".
3. Work on your body language and posture. People tend to associate poor body language and bad posture with younger people. Fix this and people are more likely to view you as being sophisticated and mature.
4. Facial expression. Don't make childish and silly facial expression when you are talking with people. It's okay to behave childishly when with your friends and joking, but not when talking about something serious with adults.
5. When dealing with your parents, don't whine or complain. Give rational, logical, and coherent explanations for things. Parents seem this behavior as being more adult-like and mature.

Growing up is a process. It's not something you just say "hey, today I'll be all grown up" Losing a childish attitude happens with life experiences. If you have good parents that protect you and love you it could take a bit of "tough love" ,as it were, to help you mature a bit. Sometimes as a parent we don't always see the mistakes we are making while we are making them.
I don't know what your circumstances are at home but maturity is often measured by taking responsibility, not only for your own actions but for things around you. That usually means doing things that you don't particularly want to do but you can see they need to be done. For instance, cleaning up after yourself instead of expecting your mom to do it. Keeping your clothing and your bedroom clean. Helping your parents without being asked.
At 18 you should be ready to go off to college. If not, take on that responsibility and do it for yourself. The college experience will help you mature...especially if you live away at school. Make it work. Prove yourself. Life can be hard and there will be stumbling blocks, but have faith in yourself and move through those experiences. All of a sudden you will realize that you have grown and you are proud of your accomplishments...and believe me those around you will notice too.

Some people mature faster than others. Just try your best to be the best person you can be. I used to try to emulate my father in my behavior and ethics. He was my inspiration, and I've never been called childish. Think of a person you know, love and respect then when you feel yourself starting to behave in an immature way, think of that person and how they would respond. You'll mature just fine....it just takes time :o)

Don't grow up to quick(adult), cuz before you know it you'll be old and you'll wish you were young again so take it easy, do things in your own time, one day at a time. Try and think before you say things - don't be to fast to back chat or pass remarks - that would be a sign of maturity but you could still stay young at heart.... If you get what I'm trying to say :) Best of Luck.

at 18 you're still pretty young so don't be too hard on yourself.
try not to have tantrums when you don't get your own way
try to understand other people's point of view
look to the future and don't think about getting instant gratification now, make plans for your future
