My 2 year old Cuban Knight Anole has lost his sight. He has been ill and under a vet's care for a couple of weeks and it has just come to our attention that he has now lost his sight. I have been force feeding him for weeks now and he has kind of gotten the idea, licking and partially opening his mouth when the tip of his nose is brushed for a while. I am able to get him to drink baby foods and eat worms. He has always been very sweet and loves to have his head scratched. I hate to euthanize this little guy if he can addapt given some time. Has anyone on here had a blind lizard? Is it possible to get them proper nutrution and to give them any quality of life?

Definitely. I have a leopard gecko who is blind and approaching 7. She has been blind most of her life too. They do adapt, it just takes a little while. I had to force feed my gecko for almost a year before she learned to fend for herself. Granted she mainly eats mealworms now dusted with vitamin powder. We just put them in front of her nose and she eats them. So don't give up on your little friend just yet.

Blind animals, as blind people, learn to adapt and have a life. Would you want to be killed if you went blind? I don't think so. I don't know much about lizards, but I knew a blind cat, who was really fine, he didn't even bump on furniture, and he would find his food by the smell. You couldn't tell he was blind, but of course he was not allowed outside. Given the fact that you have the lizard in a cage, I guess, there is no risk. You could feed him, even if he doesn't learn to find the food, but he might also learn to find his food if you put it in a specific place in the cage, and help him go there to be fed for some times.Oh and he does understand when you speak to him, when you hold him, etc, he feels the love, he just doesn't see.

Definitely he can have a good quality of life. I have a blind guinea pig, okay yes i know they are very different, but i know guinea pig is happy. He has big cage, loads of toys that make noise and gets talked to every day. Apparently too he knows when i am coming home from work cos he starts squealing when it gets close to my getting home time, cos he knows i will give him lettuce or tomatoes when i get in, his very favourite. As long as lizard is in no pain then carry on. I don't think Anoles have a very long life anyway, he is probably fairly elderly so look after him in his old age.

First of all don't blame yourself. Things happen for a reason, and sometimes you just can't prevent it. Secondly, just believe that this isn't forever, and that he'll get out of it somehow, and just love him, if you have to make him meet you all over again, it's a chance of getting closer to your dog, and maybe even bring out the old dog inside. Be patient, because this might not all happen right away, and be patient with him too, because it must be difficult for him to adjust. I know it's a big responsibility and I wouldn't even be able to think about being in your situation, you still have to hope that things will work out best for both of you. Think about the situation and if you don't think you'll be able to give him the full attention he needs than maybe it would be better to give him to someone who does, but make sure it's the right decision. I hope the best for your dog and your entire family, stay strong, love, and believe. Hope this helps, Good Luck!! :D
