How Long will my 2000 Honda Accord Last?

Has 96,000 miles and in good condition. What type of maintenace should I get done out side of oil changes?

This is a good question because you're at a crucial point with your Accord as far as milage goes. THE FIRST THING YOU SHOULD DO is get your timing belt changed. The "timing belt" is a very important part to keep tabs on since it keeps "the timing" of your engine in sync. Most Honda's need this service around 100,000 miles because belts get old, crack, and will eventually break. YOU DO NOT want the timing belt to break while your driving, because in most cars, this will COMPLETELY RUIN THE ENGINE. I reccommend getting the other belts changed as well because ther'es no additional labors charges, meaning you'll only have to pay for the extra belts. IF YOU DO THIS to your accord when needed, it will easly last you another 100,000 miles, granted you take care of your car. Other things your car could need is a fuel injector cleaning and transmission oil change, but these are minor repairs compaired to you timing belt. Depending on where you go to have your car worked on, changing the timing belt with the rest of the other belts will cost you anywhere from $300 to $800, and is worth every penny if you're going to keep your accord a very long time, good luck.

I'm driving a 90 Accord that spent 10 years sitting in the Minnesota snow, just rusting away.... my friend got it for free, rebuilt the whole engine, and now it runs fine. 335,000+ miles on it. Currently, the only issues with my car, are related to rust b/c of being in the snow so long. The exhaust needs to be replaced, my brake lines eventually will have to be as well, and my windows don't work properly. But again, it's 16 years old, too!

In short, Hondas are tough lil cars, and will last you forever. I'm not sure if there are any issues that are characteristic of Hondas (ex: Mitsubishi is reputed to have tranny problems). I've always heard good things.

General maintenance? All I do for mine is oil change, tire rotation, etc.. Oh, and save money to replace all the rust :P Oh, but she's a good little car. Still runnin strong, still (mostly) in one piece.

Hi if you keep up the maintenance and change your oil & filter about every 3000 miles . It should run way up into the 200,000 mile range.
Look at your owners manual . It will advise a mantience schedule.I also would look into finding a reliable Honda dealer .. They have the original parts and trained mechanics.Also the tools and all updated information on the Honda autos.. Thats the way to go if you plan on the long haul...

If you keep on top of scheduled maintenance, expect at least another 100,000 miles out of that car. 10 more years out of it would not be difficult, either.

Also, not everyplace with snow uses salt. (Alaska, from what I've read, Colorado, but I could be wrong on that) That said, Hondas have gotten much better about rust since the early 90s.

i am using a 94 accord and all that was done was the timing belt at 100k its currently 150k
so you know what you need to do other than oil changes and unless a problem comes up.

ya the brakes if bad better be taken care of.

the good thing about a honda is the build quality, so be free from tensions like something getting worn out or stuff.

As long as you keep basic maintenance up on it (oil, belts, fluids, disk brakes checked, etc.) you should have a car that will run for 200-400 thousand miles. My 91 accord has 270,000 miles on it and my 91 civic (that was very abused before I got it, he changed the oil twice) has 187,000 miles on it.

well make sureu keep it out of snow and other bad weather cause the salt from the roads will ruin ur paint job and just keep putting new tires and brakes and get a tune up every year, make sure to change your spark plugs and keep ur fuses new a good then there you go good car for how ever long you do it
