Well not everybody is from America hence the fact that we don't all use the same cent sign. Over here in South Africa all you do is add a little 'c', eg. 1c

You can use the dollar sign, e.g. 50 cents=$0.50, the cent sign wouldn't be used enough to justify taking up a key,
