I have a long soak in the bath and then blast it out with the shower on jet. Putting a vegetable oil in for a few days is a good idea if you get stiffer waxy build up.
I used to use a syringe from a printer refill (minus needle). I decided the shower is best and also I got funny looks of a plumber for having a syringe next to the soap.
It is possibly slightly dodgy to do your own. Syringing always works better after a few days of oil.
The fancy ear cleaners are no more effective than oil and can irritate the ears if used for a while.

Don't put a Q-Tip in his ear.I have a 2 year old that had the same problem. My doctor told me to use ear wax remover from the pharmacy.I just used a couple of drops. After 2 nights of doing this a big chunk of earwax came out.He has had no problems since.

Warm some olive oil and then pour it into one ear before you go to bed and try to lie on the opposite side.... then do the other ear the next night it always works for me just let the olive oil have a good soak and dont heat the oil to hot!!!

I was going to suggest Otex - wicked stuff - you can hear it disolving the wax in your ear - the same sound as that space dust you used to put on your tongue years ago.
If none of what you said has worked I'd get to see your doc asap
Good luck - have a nice holiday
