With the amazing lack of details it could be billions of reasons.
Re - do the question with as much details as possible.

Most likely you need to re-install the OS. or if you add some new hardware or software there maybe some issues. One big problem I have seen is AVG and a recent upgrade to XP. Un-install AVG and use and get a newer version. Good Luck
