All I need is a basic haircut (if I had clippers, a mirror and better hand-eye coordination I could do it myself), but all I see are pricey salons....any thoughts on where to get a basic guys' haircut?

G'day,

In shopping centres you'll see shops like "Just Cuts" or similar. They show their prices clearly, b'cos they want you to know that they are doing it cheap. Usually u dun have to book in advance. Expensive salons usually do not show their prices and you have to book in advance.

In CBD, there are some barber shops along Elizabeth Street. They are located between the GPO and YWCA.

You can also try your luck at the hairdressing academy, located on Elizabeth Street between Victoria Market and the big roundabout (near Autobarn shop).

Good luck and look sharp ;)

It's cheapest in the suburban high streets and shopping malls. E.g. in Footscray most hairdressing salons charge ~$12. In the CBD I've spotted a nondescript barber shop in Little Lonsdale St between Elizabeth & Queen. Never been in there but I doubt he'd charge too much.

Almost all suburban shopping centers will have a 'men only' type barbers.

Expect to pay less than $20.
