I have the best advice: Read and study 'Logic' by Aristotle. He will teach you to think, a very difficult art to master.

Keep arguing! Practice makes perfect. Research specific subjects that you want to debate. Knowledge is power. It's hard to argue convincingly about something that you don't really know about. Then you can work on your communication skills (speaking & writing) to form solid arguments. You can probably find many self-help books on the subject of debating and arguing convincingly...A lot of it is presentation as well. Much of communication is non-verbal. Certain people are very persuasive & charismatic when they speak and are able to draw people in. Good luck!

Debate, don't argue. Arguments can't be won.
• Research - the crowd can only change their mind (or reaffirm their position) if you've given them information they never knew. Find those rare tidbits that completely contradict opponents view.
• be emotionless - frustration is a sign of weakness. remember, your view is correct, people will believe your conviction. anticipate the opponents points and you won't be blind-sided. Leave the emotions to the crowd, don't whine or plead.
• counteract - either agree with them and turn their points to advantages for yours OR disassemble their points, remove credulity from their resources, etc. Don't leave an undebated point.
• confidence - good eye contact with crowd and opponent. be knowledgeable and friendly but not pompous.

study logic, then study what you want to argue about, paying close attention to the oppsite side of your arguement, The more you know about what your opponent will try to use on you, the better you will be able to counter it.
