right click screen -> properties -> settings -> change resolution
1024 x 768 probably is ok

Right click on the desktop and choose properties, click on the settings tab and change the resolution with the slider - the further to the right, the smaller the icons, and the larger the viewable area.
If that doesn't fix it, you might need to download the correct driver for your video card.

make sure the screen resolution is at least 1024x768
You can see the settings from your Control Panel > Display > Settings.
If it doesn't solve your problem, then go to Control Panel > Display > Appearance > Effects & un-check "Use Large Icons" settings.
