One of it is our reliance on the convenience brought about by certain facets of urbanization, such as the supermarket (the complication of our food-chain), etc.

Save Heidi!

Simply, humans who are used to living in cities won't have the skills necessary for suriving in the wilderness. This could be a set back for anyone initially, but since humans are capable of learning, a group of people could probably pool knowledge and figure out what to do in a novel environment. For individuals a new environment, like a jungle for a city-person, would be pretty hard to live in; but a group of city-dwellers might fare better.

Interesting question Heidi.... I think that you can look at it several different ways.....I think that a lot of major urban areas can be compared to jungles.......With gangs....areas of cultural blight..... a person raised in an urban areas in someways maybe better conditioned for a jungle environment....(examples, Instinctively staying in well lighted areas....being aware of the people around you and what they are doing...).These skills would help one survive in the jungle.
The bottom line.... a group of people dropped into the jungle without supplies...and without experts in jungle survival .....might be able to survive for a while.....but long term survival isn't likely.... Several things would have to be overcome.....the biggest obstacle ....fresh water........then food.....shelter last...Without water you will last maybe 3 days.....with contaminated water ....maybe a week. You would have to learn by trial and error....and in the jungle an error can kill you... Even someone like myself who was raised in a rural environment would have troubling surviving long term. Its not that modern man doesn't have the cognitive skills or the physical capability....he just doesn't have the knowledge....and acquiring the necessary knowledge would be hard to do at best.

I hope this helps
good luck

all you need to do is to watch the British TV show, 19th Century House, often on PBS. this show is dedicated to answer the exact question you ask.
i think there is a 18th century house version now.

forget about jungle, we can even live as our fore bearers did a hundred years ago.
