Poverty like crime and illness is partly genetic and partly environmental. As far as the genetic part is concerned, we are not bad at the racial makeup and the IQ&EQ level. The environmental factors constitute political stability, corruption, foreign direct investment, infrastructure development, market economy etc. The main constraint for our development and alleviation of poverty till late 1980 was the policy of the governments adhering to a centralized economy. (The same is the fate with all countries experimented with centralized economy like China, Russia and many of the socialist countries). Late 1980 we switched over to market economy (China did that even before) and we started progressing and there is a dip in the poverty level also. In another 10 to 20 years, our poverty level is likely to come down. However, I don't think we will ever surpass some of the developed nations level of poverty of below one percent in the near future. For this we have to resort to eugenic measures for increasing our talent pool and compensate the lost talent pool already lost due to migration to the developed nations. China already moved in this direction by starting sperm banks. So also Singapore and Israel. In a nut-shell poverty is both genetic and environmental. Our present open market economic policies will address the environmental part. I don't know when our rulers will have the wisdom to promote eugenic concepts in a democratic way for further development to address the genetic aspect of poverty. The factors that reduced the poverty level of Kerala, or Gulf nations or the prosperity of Russia during the period of Stalin are different and I don't want to go deep into those factors at present.

India is a country of opposite. We have very rich people, so rich, that they would be within the 100 richest people in the world. And we have very poor people, so poor, that they cannot afford one proper meal a day, of course, no shelter and tattered clothing only. Overall, if u add the wealth of all indians and divide by the population, it may not be very bad, but the distribution of wealth is very uneven. We have extreme wealthy and extreme poverty.

Poverty in India is due to environmental factors( climatical/geographical/geological) and manmade factors(habbits of no work culture).Poverty in India is concentrated in slums(migrated from remote rural area/outsiders),remote places not easily accessible for development.

hi brother
the poverty can be over come by introducing certain polices.
politicians use the poverty for their enlightment.certain group of poeple will be kept below the poverty line,so as to keep balance in the political system.
the people in povery are the weapons for communal riots, barbarism and they are ready to do any work they are assinged to.
so they are kept in the same way they are with out any improvement in them self.
there should be a radical change in political system, many ammendments in judicary should be there, many plans should be implemented

Because very very very few people have all the money and they refuse to pay a decent wage, in fear of losing that money. They would rather have people working for them that are practically slaves, then treat them right and give them enough to live a decent life.

Most of our people depend on agriculture which in turn depend on vagaries of nature. They lack education and wherewithal to modernise the farming methods. They are certain politicians who virtually keep them in darkness so that they can reap a rich harvest from their agony.
