I know my question sounds silly, but I'v never seen people kissing each other here, so I was wondering what will happen if two lovers kiss or french kiss each other in one on of the cafes in st. 9 or in Degla?

Then all the walkers by will either just stare or also give unnecessary comments.
Egyptians think relationship gestures are private matters that should not be displayed in public.

No dear you can't kiss a man either French or any other.
Saluting on the other hand between man & man OR woman & woman is acceptable because people there salute each other with a cheek kiss among the same gender only.

So, be careful, its totally unacceptable even if you are both foreigners.

Well no not really. In Egypt people don't kiss in public if you do you will recieve dirty looks. Don't forget Egypt is a muslim country and they may be offended by that because you are not respecting the culture/religion. It will also make the people feel a bit akward. It would be much better to kiss behind closed doors......God bless and have a nice time in Egypt..x

it's not acceptable, because it's a muslim country first, and because it's an arab country, that means that it has traditions that considers a such behavious as an impolite and misrespectful.
it's good to know the habits and the traditions of the country we travel to, because all this should be respected, no matter how weird or strange you consider it. once there, adapt!
i don't think it's very necessary to kiss each others on the street, i'm sure you will have a place where to stay, and where you can do what ever you want, also, kissing would be acceptable in hotel's and touristic restaurants and coffe shops, and of course in night club and cabaret...
you see, you have many alternativ than the street!

No, kissing in public is not legal. By kissing, I mean french kissing, not any old friendly on the cheek kiss.

I see people french kissing all the time, it really depends on where you are. In general you should avoid french kissing in the streets etc, but no one is gonna tell you off if you are in a private party, hotel, pub etc.

Do not forget that Egypt is a Muslim Country conservative in these matters, and Islam makes any physical relationship between a couple is their own so People will look surprised thats it . or the Waiter will come nicely to ask you to stop . kissing is a " flagrant act in a public place" and it is punishable by law.

No you cannot do this in public here in Egypt. They are very conservative when it comes to this issue. Unlike other countries where it is a normal thing to see couples kissing in public, if you do that in Egypt it will seem so awkward and abnormal and people will be staring at you and think it is a very odd and impolite behavior. Others will try to harrase you as well. so be careful, it's totally different here in Egypt

It's Illegal for locals and for other nationalities it will get them in troubles as the majority of people will consider it impolite and it's an invitation for bad people to celebrate randomly with the guests in some cases.

first of all it ,depends whether they are Egyptians or not , if they are Egyptians they might get caught by the police or the female might get raped and the guy got beaten up like a donkey and if they were foreigners no one will comment and pretend as if they haven't seen anything :)
its a double standard and its every where in Egypt , tourists can do whatever they want but Egyptians cant :)
ironic !!
