Unfortunately not mate - your only real solution to the problem would be to get a plasterer to skim the walls for you. However, if you plan to re-tile the surface, you need not even do this. All you need to do is chip off the worst of it, get it as good as you can, then tile right over the top of it. The surface doesnt need to be perfect of being re-tiled as the new adhesive will take up any imperfections on the old surface.

Hope this helps - I hate redecorating!!!

Tile adhesive is cement based so bonds very firmly to plaster, you have to remove it by scraping and sanding but if you are tiling back over the top you will not need a perfectly smooth finish as the new adhesive will allow for surface imperfections.

The best thing to try is a hot steam wallpaper stripper.Hold it on top of the adhesive for a few minutes then scrape off with a wallpaper scraper. If it doesn't come away first time then just resteam it. This works really well....a lot easier than scraping it all off.Wallpaper strippers can be hired very cheaply. Good luck

hot soapy water soaked onto the adhesive for ten minutes will help when you try scraping off with a sharp scraper ,if its the old style evostick glue then its a case of hammer and bolster im afraid ..but like i said if its the white adhesive ,soak it well first then scrape it off ,same applies if you want to re-use any of the tiles that your taking off soak first tap the edges gently with a scraper and they should pop off the wall bung em in a bucket of hot soapy water for ten minutes or longer and then the adhesive will scrape off
