I find it unnatural to say "torch", to me that's the heated thing.
I have to write a piece that talks about a flashlight for a mainly British audience. Should I force myself to say "torch" or is flashlight good enough?

Your audience will understand flashlight, but it will sound strange and very American.

If you want to come across as an American, then use "flashlight". However, many Brits may be unfamiliar with the term and not knwo what you are talking about. "Torch" would be undertstandable to the whole audience.

You live with it. I had troubles with "boot" and "bonnet" myself.
