"The Pearl of the Caribbean" is not independent. They have consistently voted to remain a US commonwealth, and have also rejected statehood.

It is not independent. It's a U.S. Commonwealth/territory. The citizens of Puerto Rica have voted against both statehood and independence several times.

Puerto Rico is not yet independent because the US is not giving it up as a protectorate.

Pert is under the wing of the U.S.A and that's the way they want it..we give them protection and they don't have to do anything ...its a good arrangement for them
