I clean all day long! I also have 3 kids and it's a non-stop mess at my house. I don't like cleaning all day long, but you have to if you like having a clean house. I sweep twice a day, vacuum once a day, I am constantly picking up toys and dirty clothes, I dust every day, I do upwards of 4 loads of laundry a day, the list goes on and on. Thank god I'm a stay-at-home Mom, if I weren't I'd never be able to keep up with it all. My kids do have chores....which helps a lot. But I get what you mean, even after they do chores there's another mess 5 minutes later somewhere else. Just clean up when it's a small mess instead of waiting till it's a big mess. It's not so menacing when it's just a little mess. Another thing you can do (if you can afford it) is get a maid to come out once a week or once every 2 weeks (I only pay $150 for a maid visit). It's nice because they do all the hard stuff for me like cleaning out my oven and washing my windows.....the stuff I hate doing and never get around to doing. Good luck :) EDIT: Oh ya, one other thing.....ORGANIZATION! A place for everything and everything has it's place. Invest in a whole bunch of cute baskets and shelves and bags, label them and use them! It really does help.

Do a little at a time, every day. Once you have it neat, this will keep it from getting out of hand again.
Also, keep cleaning stuff in each bathroom so it's easy to do -- no dragging stuff from other places (and then having to put it back!). Keep a box or basket in the living or family room to put stuff in that doesn't belong there, then empty the basket now and then.
The whole key is to make it almost as easy to keep things neat as it is to let them get messy.

Being that I live on my own and work long hours I do the following:
Put things away after use.
Either wash things and put in cuboards or put in dishwasher so it doesn't build up.
I tackle one room a day and that way everything keeps tidy.
Anyone who comes in takes their shoes off at the door. I have light carpets and can't afford to hire carpet cleaning devices.
Mind you, until I purchased my house I had no idea how much time it takes to keep it spick and span.

Maintain Maintain Maintain!
Have a routine and do it everyday. If you have a family, get them involved too.
Do a load of laundry each day and don't let the dishes pile up.
Clean out your fridge before you go grocery shopping.
Carry around a swiffer duster in you back pocket and dust as you go wherever you see needs it.
Take 15 min at the end of each day to put away clutter, and 30 min each week to sort and file papers.
Don't bring junk mail into the house, throw it away in the dumpster or outside trash before you come inside.

Having less stuff and having a place to put away the stuff you have. Even if your house is clean, lots of stuff around distracts and makes it look less tidy.

1-Don't say "I'll Do it tomorrow " or "I'll finish it tomorrow"cuz then, you will keep saying it until your house turns into a disaster.
2-Set some rules 4 those who live with you.
3-Put trash bins everywhere in your house: living room, bathroom, kitchen, bedroom...etc
4-put laundry baskets in every room and every bathroom available in your house so, that you don't have to pick-up the clothes from the floor or look everywhere for it.
5- Try to organize your house.
6- Fix anything broken in your house.
7-Wash and clean your house everyday, and have someone (family or friend) to help you.

Stay single. My apartment was really nice until my girlfriend moved in...now it's constantly littered with magazines and clothes. And people say that men are the messy ones.

A place for everything and everything in it's place. If you follow this you'll be more inclined to put things away if they have an actual place to go.
