It seems to be a case of compromise and moderation to me. The UK government seem hell-bent on making the UK an attractive proposition for casinos and gambling companies and in the process, there will doubtless be some social consequences.

However, I think that a lot of the UK media have gone over-board with the criticism of casinos and are almost scare-mongering. For example, studies have been carried out that show there is no proven link between gambling and anti-social behavior. Yes there will probably be a rise in problem gamblers areas near the casino, but the government should take responsibility of that and bear the cost of helping these people too.

Casinos can improve an area through attracting investment, creating jobs etc but i think they must be closely monitored. Atlantic City in America was supposed to save that area, but many people think it has only served to make it worse. However, the government have said they will close down any casino that is causing problems. Lets see if they stick to that after they begin taking in all that gambling tax!

Yes. I intend to gamble all my mortgage money in the casino and credit cards to the limit, so I can become a millionaire.
