Nothing forces you to choose happiness as your goal in life. Hormones try and push you in the right direction- they're a mechanism to try to get you to act like a survivor.
Some people thrive in negativity- they actively seek out stress, tears and conflict in order to control others.
Other people deny themselves pleasure- but enjoy it in turn; eg ascetics.
You can feel sadness directly through illness or nutritional deficiency- if you try to live peversely either of these would reset your system so need to be avoided.

Happiness is a goal. No matter how close we get to being completely happy, there will always be something we want to 'fix' or 'make better' that will keep us striving forwards all the time.
Unless you're the type of person who just prefers to be miserable all of the time, and can't see the positive side of things at all. If you are, then you're probably happy being that way, and don't need to change.
If you're the type to feel guilty about feeling happy, then you probably would benefit from looking at why you feel like that, or even talking to someone to explore that further, and learn to enjoy feeling happy for what it is - an extremely rare bonus that makes everything worthwhile!

I know what you mean... but you see happiness is not something that can be persued. It is elusive. It comes to you as a consequence of your actions and thoughts and opinions etc.
So happiness is not simply a matter of going around with a big grin on our faces. Some things do require thoughtful, quiet comtemplation and reflection. But you can still be happy or contented within you.
Think: happy people go to funerals, but they need to be considerate of the mourning of others. No good going around greeting everyone with a big smile and a high-5.

O.K. Since you are a minor, you have to be respectful of your parents. Your parents are doing what they think is best for you. Even if they think it is in 'not' serving Jehovah the true God. Speak to someone in your Congregation... your study conductor, an Elder, an Elder's wife, even. But Please Do Remember: "We Must Obey God As Ruler." Jehovah will not forget what you have suffered for His name. Do Not Give In. Do Not Give Up on serving Jehovah God. Pray incessantly. I, also, am the only Witness in my very large family, including my husbands family...extremely LARGE family. The more people try to get me to give up serving Jehovah.... the More I DIG my Heels in. This past December, my husband threatened me with divorce, if I didn't stop, serving Jehovah. I did not falter, nor waiver.... and, we aren't divorced............yet.

i think it ultimately comes down to the situation...
if say for example, there's a really cool job opportunity offered to both you and a good friend...and you get selected...its not so cool being happy/estatic..simply because your friend its upset. sort of makes u self-centered
otherwise, i think being happy is better- because it means that youve achieved something good- but not at the expense of other people

Sadness hurts and you know you'll feel better when it's gone. When you're happy, you always feel that it's too good to last and you fear the time when or if that will happen.
