I was just wondering if your average barber (UK) offers a head-shaving service? I don't mean to a Grade 1 with just the clippers, but a full wet shave leaving smooth skin.

I am thinking of having it done but I've never seen a barber offering a full head wet shave service- everyone I speak to seems to do it themselves, but I want it done nicely by a pro.

Is it likely to cost more than a Grade 1 all over (which takes 5 minutes!)?

Thanks guys!

I put this Q in the Hair category but only got two answers (thanks to those who did!)- just wondering if I might have more luck here!

hi you might find that you have more luck at a foreign barbers like asian or italian as they also do shaves whereas barbers generally just do hair

My husband keeps his head clean-shaven, most of the time. One thing you need to consider is the cost and upkeep. Your hair will grow just a little slower than facial hair. You will literally get stubble within 24 hours, hard cat's-tongue texture for the next day or two, rough velvet, and then will be velvety smooth and needing a serious cut by the end of the week. If you can learn to do it yourself you will save a TON of money on upkeep. Disposable razors are much cheaper than barbers.

Disposable razors and Men's specially-formulated head hair removal cream are your only options. Electric razors don't work because the hair is too fine. Be sure the depillatory cream is for your HEAD...using anything like regular Nair will give you a nasty chemical burn. Just read the label well.

My husband usually cuts his hair with electric clippers with the guard off before he shaves. Just be extra careful so you don't cut yourself. If you stick with the #1 guard, you can expect to use more razor blades. Always spend a bit more for the GOOD disposables. He suggests the original Mach 3 (I don't know what equivalent you have in the UK, but it's a triple blade disposable with a floating head and rubber strip for lifting the hair). If you don't use a guard, you'll use one blade. If you use a #1 guard, you will use at least 2. If you use cheaper blades, you can expect to use up to 3 or 4. So, depending on what you do, it can cost as little as one blade (about 2 bucks) or up to a small package of throwaways (and a bunch of cuts). That's much cheaper than a barber, but of course if you can afford a bit of pampering, and can live with all hair textures from stubble to velvet, you can make weekly appointments. Good Luck and Blessings...

If you want a full head shave, how much skill do you need to get it done nicely?? Surely the only complication you're going to run into is a few bits of tissue stuck to your head due to using a blunt razor.

Buy a new razor, lather well and off you go! In order to get the smooth skin, you're going to have to do it daily in any case.

Get a good razor and do it yourself. Use Kingof shaves oil instead of foam or gel and it's simple and easy.

Barbers used to do proper wet shaves but it's not as common now, you can always ask tho'. It should only be the cost of a haircut.

I think you can just use a vegetable chopping knife, after sharpening it and put some shave cream all over your head, this way you'll not only be shaving your head but being a real man as well.

Good point actually. I bet there are only a handful who would do that for you now. It is certainly worth asking any barber. Some may oblige you.

If your going to do this, you need to do it yourself or have a friend do it for you. You usually have to shave your head on a bi-daily basis with a razor in order to get the effect.
