When I visit the US, my wallet soon fills up with a huge wad of notes. As inflation creeps along, surely there will be pressure to drop the bill?

No. At least not for a very long time.

Part of the power of the dollar comes from the psychological effect of the constancy of the US dollar. That is why the US Treasury does not like to make changes in how it looks. The color should be changed to prevent counterfeiting, but they want to keep that psychological trust level as high as possible. (If you want to know why, check out our trade deficit)

I think the Dollar Coin is a horrible idea, I hate having change in my pocket. I would much rather have a thin piece of paper in my wallet. Also, has anyone ever been to Canada or England where they have a 1 dollar / 1 pound and 2 dollar / 2 pound coin? Its horrible. You go out and when you pay for something you get CHANGE. Then you buy something else and you get more change. Your pockets get heavy and you have a handful of coins that add up at the end of the night. Its such a pain in the ***. Paper money for cash is the way to go. If you don't like it use a Debit/Check/Credit card!!!

No we won't because we love our dollars and so should you.
They make the world go round after all, ha ha.
The solution to your problem isn't changing our monetary system its changing your spending habits.
We love for you to visit our beautiful country but we would love you more if you spent those huge wads of notes here.
Peace.

The one, if dropped, will be well after the penny gets dismissed. I would guess the one dollar bill will be around at least another 20-30 years...if not longer

We will not drop the $1.00 bill any time soon however the penny is on the verge of extinction. The US mint actually should consider adding more $1.00 coins like the Sacajawea when that happens.

someday we will switch to a dollar coin exclusively. we currently have a dollar coin, but it hasn't been popular due to confusion with the quarter (.25c coin).
