Yes it's a very nice place but It's a very long flight from UK. If you've never flown before it's a risk in case you don't like flying, and it's a long way from home if you get homesick.

Why don't you go somewhere not so far from UK first time?

I am from Canada and when I went to Malaysia in the 90s, I was robbed at knife point in Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur and these bastards even managed to get my passport. The local police did nothing about my case. The videos oftentimes show you the good side, never the bad side. Consider yourself warned.

It depends on your personal conception of a good place to go. It can be hot and very humid. A package holiday is best for easy travelling for first-timers; all the arranging is done for you. If there is a rep. to "mother" you, then advice is always at hand. Maybe you should keep closer to home for a first trip abroad.
Using the internet search facility gives you the chance to get plenty of knowledge/opinions of any destination you choose.

Ignore what Dave said there.Only reason he got robbed is cause he's a homo. It really is a safe place here. Kuala Lumpur & Penang are the two cities you must visit.
