Yes. Every woman has a right in the ancestral property. But there are certain conditions under which she can lay her claim i.e. the time and mode, the region and the quantum.

Your case lacks facts therefore unable to answer specifically.

Every State has its own law. There is a Central Legislation but there are certain crucial amendments for every State.

The entire world runs on a patriarchal family system. But you would be surprised to know that in India there are certain States and regions which have matriarchal family systems. The Law relating to those system is entirely different. Apart from this contrast distinction there are several customary traditions and systems followed by people living in different regions. And inorder to respect their customary laws the respective states have enacted different legislations for different Castes.

It was probably easy for you to ask your question. But the Law governing HUF and Laws relating to Succession are very complicated and at times contradictory. With the same set of facts there would be an entirely different remedy because of the Laws applicable to each sect and region.

I would sure put in my efforts to resolve your question if provided with the facts.
