I think it was a beacon but its light has dimmed

although the UK was one of the first nations to have its own parliament it hasnt alwasy been the leading light
after all New Zealand was the first democracy to allow women the vote. Its been dialtory in other areas.

it has been realtively scandal free, if you isolate some of the sexual and realtionship scxandals that have developed over the years (I can think of many dating back to Jeremy Thorpe and before)

British politicial life is realtively honest and reputable, expecially when compared to France. THe proevious govenremnt were castigated for sleeze.. but there actual crimes in that area were few and realtively minor. Sadly the same cannot be said of this government which virtually from day one despite claiming to fight sleeze in public life they have been upto their smelly armpits

Its not just Blair, Prescott theres others right up there at the heart of the government (Cook over Sierra Leone), its the whole debacle over Ecclestone, Mittal, thre most recent peerages, the media manipulation of Iraq, picking a good day to bury bad news.

Is it irremdeemable no of course it isn't. perhaps we are sinking to similar levels as elsewhere (eg the EU.. where a French Minister thought nothing on appointing her lover as an employee of the commission even thoiugh he never worked there.

Perhaps the British Democracy was never as marvellous as believrs claimed.. mebbe, there is more than an element of truth in that you get the politicians you deserve. perhaps the currrent crop indicate the venal self serving dishonest lot we have gained since poltiicis becmae a full time profession for people to go into as a first job.. people like Jack Straw, Grodon Brown & Bliar.

it may not be the best example in the world but democracy is a shining beacon to the rest of the world.

British Democracy .. is no longer for the Truly Indigenous Population under this Treacherous , Lying , Treasonable "Blairs Government"...

Democracy? well, on the whole, and when viewed at objectivly, being Democratic is more preferable, to me, however, there are those who will disagree, though the chances are they will not know why, nor are they likley to be able to hold a reasonable argument for an alternative. That said, if the British Democracy is viewed by others as to be the `envy of the world` is not for me to say, only that there are millions, if not billions, who would prefer our way of life than their own. which in itself says something. I am British, and glad, and dare i say it, proud to be so. Unfortunately no-one is perfect, we (British Governments) have made major blunders in the past, and some say continue to do so, but let us not forget, we are a brilliant race, we have brought so much to the world, 95% for the better, surely.
what other country can match our history and acheivements?

We should be the envy of the world, but these days they all see us as a soft touch, and i would imagine most of the world must think we have lost the plot when it comes to taking care of the British people and giving into the EU demands so easily. We are taking on the worlds problems without consideration for our own, despite supposed to being the 4th richest country in the world. how come we have not enough prison, hospital, and antiquate schooling if this is the case ?

Do you particularly have self belief you invented all of those issues? interior the final of risk you have stolen those innovations....you have been too lots busy to get below the effect of alcohol to invent something...and no you didnt invented the radio or the telephone...yet I agree that british everybody is able to get stoned greater effectual than anybody else and wierd sufficient you nonetheless did no longer invented appropriate bogs and proper faucets you need to continuously replica if from out of the country and say you invented it after some years XD ...btw: what approximately "invent" a thank you to have a appropriate hygiene cost besides? case in point in hospitals and in british homes ...i found them to be surprisingly filthy and greasy, perhaps it would help to get rid of all those carpets throughout and take a glance at to rigidity your self somewhat cleansing it up greater generally?I guess you will get rid quickly of the "superbug"? own hygiene besides might desire to be more desirable...mate i'm telling this to make you sense greater effectual...much less illnesses for a start up...

Sadly i hate to disappoint you but it's not........ ye see the world and it's mother had a taste of British democracy for a couple of centuries....... and sent it packing back home on britannia......Young nations (including the USA) have developed their own systems and their own principles whilst not perfect, but are in many ways are fairer and more just.
Tony Blair has recognised this...... he sorted out the house of lords.......but for that he was criticised..... rather than applauded.

What British democracy? a democracy is when a government works for the wishes of its people, did they ask us if we should go to war in Iraq, did they ask us if we wanted millions of immigrants in our country, do they ask us about anything, all they do is take and take, then take some more, sounds more like a dictatorship to me.

Umm... Not really... American democracy is more the 'Envy of the World' than British. I'm sorry, but I really don't see what there is to envy across the pond other than Stonehenge and fish 'n chips.
