Ask your OB, not a bunch of strangers online if you have a question about your pregnancy. Think about it: who do you trust with your child's health? A medical doctor or a 14-year-old who can't form complete sentances?

I´ve been eating bunches of it during my pregnancy and everything is fine. I just make sure it is ripe and it helps with heartburn too..
Papaya is sometimes recommended for soothing indigestion, which is a common ailment during pregnancy. Although a fully ripe papaya is not considered dangerous, a papaya that is at all unripe contains a latex substance that triggers uterine contractions and may cause a miscarriage.

If it's unripe, which -- well, who besides rats eats unripe papaya?
"Papaya (Carica papaya) consumption is unsafe in pregnancy: fact or fable? Scientific evaluation of a common belief in some parts of Asia using a rat model

The results of the present study suggest that normal consumption of ripe papaya during pregnancy may not pose any significant danger. However, the unripe or semi-ripe papaya (which contains high concentration of the latex that produces marked uterine contractions) could be unsafe in pregnancy."

Im a chinese and in our tradition, pregnant woman must not eat too 'cooling' food like pineapple, starfruits, papaya etc...that does not mean 'cannot' be eaten but eat moderately. Cooling food may cause weakness in our ovaries which might cause a miscarriage. Better safe than sorry.

hi queen,
papaya is a good source of vit a..taken occasionally is nt a problem rather good but it has a lot of prostaglandins too wch is responsible for initiating uterine contractions wch may lead to abortion...fearing this it is normally adviced to avoid but it is nt strictly prohibited...papaya taken during early pregnancy is more dangerous as chances of abortion r high but that taken during late pregnancy is comparitively safe & good for health of both mother & child.....
so weighing both sides it is better to avoid bcos taking & being apprehensive about a bad situation causes more harm..rather u can always avoid it & hv ur fill after ur pregnancy...
