'The Civil War: A Narrative', by Shelby Foote - One of the most comprehensive studies of the war, and very well told.
'The Deed of Paksenarrion', by Elizabeth Moon - three volumes concerning a sheepfarmer's daughter who undertakes warrior training, Great adventure.
'The Prydain Chronicles', by Lloyd Alexander - five books with all the fantasy elements woven into a great story.
'The Great Shame: And The Triumph of the Irish In The English-Speaking World', by Thomas Keneally - an account of the great famines in Ireland and the exodus which sent its people to America.
'Wellington: the Years of the Sword' & 'Wellington: Pillar of State', by Elizabeth Longford - the biography of one of European history's most interesting characters. 'Years of the Sword' covers his campaigns in India and the Napoleonic wars; 'Pillar of State' is his years as a politician in England.

I'd suggest Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan. I consider it a bit of fantasy but not in the traditional sense. Boy Meets Boy is a short, sweet story set in a fictional town where everyone is open minded and it appears the majority of the town are homosexual. For instance, the captain of the football team is also the homecoming queen and nobody really has a problem with it.

I'd recommend it because it is totally unlike anything else you're likely to read and because of the interests you've listed.

Night and Day by Viginia Woolf.

It's an interesting book about the lives of two women who have similar feelings of being trapped by society, but radically different backgrounds and possibilities.

My recommendation is that you visit your local library. There are many choices open to you there and a trained librarian to help you search.
