The terrorist's motive seems to be to provoke terror, and yes, they wanted this before 9/11.
From what I've learned on this site, this is against Islam, and these people are in the minority of Muslims.

governments, poltiicians, theologists and ALL human kind are selective readers, interpreters and actors.
we choose to listen to what we want to, and ignore or filter out what we dont like
we choose to do what we want to, and ignore what we should do
..look at climate change, yet is the US (& other developed nations) doing anything significant about it?
..look at Iraq... this dishonest and disreputable government of ours having faked documents top demonstrate that Iraq had WMD and was actively pursuing other WMD programs led us into a disastorous adventure in both Afghanistan and Iraq alonsgside the US. Its current justifications (apolgoies) are to bring democracy, to bring equality to bring equity. .... bollux these things have to be earned byt he people themsleves.. if they dont espouse those values themselves then they cannot be imposed or granted by a third party. It took the best part fo 30..40 years for racial & sexual equality to take root within the UK....... and they are not stiull fully established and accepted by all. Thats without a war do these politicians not realise they have opened a festering sore that will probably never go away.
if religons actaully bothered about the truth of their holy scriptures then they would tie themsleves in knots.. the bible is just as full of contradiction and misinformation as the Koran, or Torah or whatever. For hundreds of years religous leaders and mankind have found ways to read whatever the heck they like into these texts, and ignore those bits that they dont like.
supposedly Christianity is a peacefull religion.... after the bloodbaths fought in the name of Christianity over the years an outside observer might disagree. Its not that long ago that we had the First World War, when both sides claimed 'God is on our side'. Judaism claims to be peacefull but its practioners seem to be very very bloodthirsty
I suppose you could sum it up by waht comes around, goes around

Nothing beats Christianity for selective reading and interpretation of scriptures. From the Ten Commandments to Leviticus, the Church and its followers are forever displaying their hypocrisy.
As the country that finances Israel, the US will always be liable to have its proxy war brought home.

In case you hadn't realised, this war has nothing to do with Al-Qaeda. It has been used as an excuse to be there when in reality there was never a connection.
In fact the whole thing has been based on lies, from the very beginning.
