tragedy or bad news sells. newspapers, like any other kind of business is concerned with raising money and print things to sell ads. controversy sells. randolph hearst called it sensaltionalism and not much has changed in a hundred years since.

Unfortunately, good news doesn't sell newspapers.

Many years ago, a deranged man escaped from a secure asylum, ran into a laundry to escape detection, grabbed one of the unfortunate workers and raped her, before making off.

A sad story it may be, but when the headline reads, "Loose nut screws washer and bolts" ......that's a winner!

Midlands Today are good at bring out the good news too. Usually at the end of their regular daily and weekly news.
