Is an ipod just a glorified mp3 player, does this mean that I can transfer tunes from itunes to any mp3 player? Are all mp3 players pretty much the same or are there any I should avoid? Thanks...

Hey, check this out and we both can get a free ipod nano:
http://ipods.freepay.com/?r=35260777

This is a genuine offer to get yourself a completely free ipod nano. It has been accredited by the BBC (see the video article here) and many people have got their Apple Mac’s through this and similar schemes.

Proof It Works. BBC News night feature on how it works, well worth watching:

What to do:
Visit: http://ipods.freepay.com/?r=35260777

1.Sign up to the website and complete one offer ( I highly recommend the Screen Select / Lovefilm FREE trial, as it is a completely free 21 day trial with no obligations. Simply register, put in all your details, choose 15 movies, sit back and wait a few days until the giveaway site gives you credit - no need to pay a thing as it's very simple to cancel before your trial is up, and you even get free DVD rentals!)

2.Refer just 5 people to do the same for a 40GB . Ask friends & family, or make adverts like I am doing, and the referrals should rack up surprisingly quickly.

3.Then finally, Wait for your free ipod nano to arrive!!

Any questions, please add me to your MSN, my address is

Thank You,

The iPod is a decent mp3 player. You really need iTunes to transfer your music to an iPod but you don't have to buy anything through iTunes.

I have ripped my CD collection to MP3 and transfered it all into my iTunes library with no problem at all. Its all very easy. I have also bought MP3s from another source and transfered those to my iTunes library, again with no issues. Its very easy.

As for other players. There are many other MP3 players about but you really need to read reviews to find out how good they are. They will all come with their own software for transfering.

You will not be able to use iTunes to transfer your music to these other players. This does not have to be a problem though. There is no reason why your music can not be stored in the library of iTunes and which ever other software you use for another player.

Yes, an ipod is an mp3 player which has been doctored to make it difficult to transfer music to it without paying money for the music.

They're well made and they're fashion items, but they're horrendously expensive and rather primitive.

I've bought several generic models from www.uxcell.com and have been very satisfied. Much more sophisticated than ipods and the songs just get copied straigtht across from my computer. They also record, have radios built in and have rechargeable built-in batteries.

An iPod is an EVIL mp3 player. They are stylish, sound great, are durable and expensive. The iTunes program makes it complicated to transfer free music to it and then to another iPod. It's designed to suck you into the iTunes store and then make you buy everything you listen to, as if you can't listen to it free on the radio. It's a freaking rip off. BUT, I bought three of them for my kids. I got my daughter the fancy 30GB model with the video and my two younger boys the Shuffles, which I prefer.

Hey, I think that you can do better when chosing an mp3 player.
iPods are only being bought due to word of mouth because "everyone has one" and they are just not good value for money!
I recommend getting a sansa e200 series. They are far better looking, far cheaper, higher quality (including build and sound), play videos, listen to the radio, view photos, use a memory card, and most of all plays music brilliantly!
Read this review, as it has everything you need to know;

I forgot to mention earlier, but when using iTunes you can only transfer music to your iPod and not any other player which is really bad. Also the music you buy from the site can only be played on the iPod, if you buy the iPod and purchase music from their site, you are stuck for life!
Anyway, good luck, and I hope you find the right player for you (hopefully the sansa!)

IMO yes...ipods dont even have a built in radio and i think their competitors have better features even though ipod will always look the best.Itunes makes the job of transferring files to a normal mp3 player quite hard as they convert your mp3/wma files into mpeg 4 files which some mp3 players dont play.So you'd have to convert them into mp3 files before putting them on your mp3 player.
