since Philippines is an independent nation, is not like Puerto Rico
and the people want to continue being their own nation
than they should not become an USA state
Puerto Rico is a different manner
most people want to be part of the USA as a state, but since is less than 50%(about 43%) and ones who want to be completely independent are about 36% and the rest either undecided or stay as they are
than there one can argue for both sides of it becoming a state

The Phillipines ws already a territory of the United States from 1905 when the American-American war ended till 1946 and America's oil embargo against the Japanese intended to prevent the Japanese frominvading the Phllipines in 1941 was largely what precipitated America's entry into World War II and the Unites States has had permanent military encampments there ever since, so in practice its kind of a moot point. The U.S. pretty much already owns the Phillipines.

i would disagree because the philippines is a soverign state that the USA has NO real jurisdiction over, even though it may appear, the USA cannot force the philippines to do something that it doesn't, for example become a 51st state, because it would cause alot of backlash, this is sorta the same in what is in australia now, everyone thinks we are a state of america lol

I would disagree because the Philippines is a sovereign state, and if a state, would be a huge drain financially. Let alone the HUGE political effects, globally.
However, you could argue the benefits to their nation becoming a state by observing Hawaii, which was its own sovereign nation at one time. People of the Philippines would benefit through increase wage requirements, social assistance and the right to participate in a larger democratic process. Cost of living would skyrocket for the people, as it has in Hawaii. The land for our military bases would be cheaper for us to use, and one could argue building up forces there could be a benefit if we ever needed to defend Japan or S. Korea. Socially, they would be better off. Economically, we would be better off to make it more like Puerto Rico.

I don't ever see that happening as it is a sovern nation. Puerto Rico however is a posession that get's government money and services, but pays no tax to the treasury.
I want to be in a posession or territory.
The Phillipines is a very poor country and would be hard to defend as it is far from our borders. Our only connection is military bases there. This would be a huge welfare state as the only economy is service oriented due to the military presence

Allah forbid that it ever happens! There is already enough corruption in philipines without having the USA bring more of it to the shores.
Besides it is actually in Asian Pacific, not the Pacific. It is an independent nation with its own government and Parliament.
I think there would be a national revolt if the US interferred in their politics and rightly so!

If that happen US would have a very big problem. Imagine if philippines will be a state of US then when election come Filipinos can elect and vote a Filipino president, right? (est. philippine pop. 82M).
Hope u get my point... lolz

I actually do disagree because there is already enough clutter in our country. Expanding it will only cause more dramatic and political puzzles.

Then you would have to send your soldiers to fight and die in their unjustified military actions.
