What is meant by "hi there"?

Is this a very normal way of greeting? or is this sort of an affectionate way? or is it just suitable for any and every body?

It is a more casual greeting, usually amongst friends.

It is a casual greeting which is very normal. It's not really romantic since you are not using the other persons name.

"hi" is a great way to greet someone. "there" means u acknowledge that u see him/her. it's how u say it.
